What is RPL/RCC?
You may have skills, knowledge and experience that could count towards the competencies required for a particular qualification outcome. To gain recognition they can apply to Prime Learning for Recognition of Prior Learning/Recognition of Current Competency or RPL/RCC.
The RPL/RCC process takes into account skills and knowledge gained through:
- Formal training (conducted by industry or educational institutions)
- Work experience (including informal training) and
- Other life experiences
By claiming RPL/RCC it could mean that you may be able to complete a course of study in less time, with minimal disruption to work and at a lower cost.
How does the RPL/RCC Process Work?
- You will need to contact the Prime Learning RPL/RCC Coordinator to discuss how the RPL/RCC process could be of benefit to you. They will ask you some brief questions about your qualifications and history and discuss the possible pathways for completing the qualification you are seeking. You will also be provided with information about the full RPL/RCC process and the costs involved.
- To proceed further with the RPL/RCC application, you will be provided with an application and initial application form to complete and return to Prime Learning by post or email with a deposit of $250.00. (Payable by credit card or direct credit). You will also be asked to send some documentary evidence with your application for an initial appraisal.
- You will be notified in seven days as to your potential eligibility for RPL/RCC and the relevant costs due and payable on invoice in 7 days.
- When your fees have been paid and receipted, your application will be forwarded to an Prime Learning RPL/RCC consultant who will personally assist with the full self-assessment process and direct you as to further evidence required to support your application.
- Once you have collected the evidence required, your application will be forwarded to the assessor for formal review. This takes about 7 days at which point you will be advised in writing of the outcome.
- If your application is successful, you will receive formal recognition and the relevant award will be issued. If your application is not successful, your RPL/RCC consultant will discuss any issues that need to be resolved. This could mean that you will need to collect further evidence or undertake gap training to meet the competency requirements. If you need to undertake gap training, Prime Learning has options available that are both flexible and cost effective. Gap training is an extra cost not included in the pre-paid RPL/RCC fees.
What is Credit Transfer?
A credit transfer is different from RPL/RCC. Credit transfer applies to clients who have completed part of their course or a similar course through another Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The Australian Recognition Framework Principles for National Recognition state that a RTO must accept and recognise the decisions and outcomes of any other RTO.
If a client is applying for credit transfer and completing gap training to gain a qualification through Prime Learning, students only pay for the gap training plus a $50.00 administrative charge.
Our Assessment Process
When developing the assessment (including RPL/RCC) for each qualification, the RTO will ensure:
- compliance with the assessment guidelines from the relevant Training Package or accredited course
- assessment leads to a qualification or Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
- assessment complies with the principles of competency-based assessment (i.e. assessment is valid, reliable, flexible and fair) and informs the student of the context and purpose of the assessment
- the rules of evidence (valid, sufficient, current and authentic) guide the collection of evidence to support the principles of assessment
- elements of language literacy and numeracy are accounted for
- there is a focus on the application of knowledge and skills to the standard expected in the workplace, including skills for managing work tasks, contingencies and the job environment (e.g. dress, communicating with supervisors, competent performance )
- timely and appropriate feedback is given to students
- all assessment tools and processes comply with Prime Learning's access and equity policy including the documentation of reasonable adjustments to the assessment tools where appropriate
- all students have access to reassessment on appeal
Details of all assessments are provided to students at course commencement. These details include information about the competencies to be achieved, evidence to be provided, process to be undertaken, the context for assessment, support arrangements, format and methods of submission and timeframes for completion
